The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza at 55 Water Street is a reflection of the public and private partnership forged by Dr. David G. Bronner, Chief Executive Officer of the Retirement Systems of Alabama, owners of 55 Water Street. Dr. Bronner, a visionary development leader, has been personally dedicated to the creation and preservation of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza. His ingenuity played a vital role in its redevelopment. This inspirational Memorial Plaza is a reflection of his commitment to the Vietnam Veterans’ community of New York City.

2006 Honoree of the Year Dr. David G. Bronner and John Phelps, artist and creator of the Phelps Award. John's Marine son, 19-year-old Chance Phelps killed in Iraq, was the subject of the HBO award-winning film Taking Chance.
